Christmas Eve Crash: Two Dead, 6-year-old survivor at Children’s Hospital

Genesee (December 24, 2018) – A Christmas Eve crash left two women dead and a 6-year-old passenger with serious injuries. Colorado State Patrol responded to the accident on 1-70 near Genesee.

Officers said a 62-year-old woman from Frederick was driving eastbound on 1-70 when her car drifted to the shoulder. She over-corrected causing her car to go through the median, spin out and hit another car. She died at the scene.

The 38-year-old woman driving the other car was also killed. The names of the woman and her child passenger have not been released. They were from Clark in Routt County, about 20 miles north of Steamboat Springs. The young girl was airlifted to Children’s Hospital due to the serious nature of her injuries.

The accident happened around 9 pm on the 24th. 1-70 was closed in both directions for 5 hrs while police investigated the crash. Colorado State Patrol suspects alcohol and marijuana use contributed to the crash.
