Driver Runs Red Light, Causes Deadly Crash on Colfax

Denver (January 19, 2019) – Denver Police arrested a man on Saturday for his involvement in a two-car crash that left one person dead. Investigators shut down Colfax at Osage Street for several hours following the accident. RTD was also forced to close a section of the light rail track near the scene.

The surviving 27-year-old driver, Jamie Bautista-Sanchez, is being held while police investigate charges of vehicular assault. Denver PD said it appears Sanchez ran a red light while driving westbound on Colfax through the intersection at Osage. His vehicle then struck a black truck that was traveling northbound on Osage. The truck rolled, resulting in fatal injuries for the driver. Investigators suspect alcohol or drug-related impairment as factors in the crash.

EMS transported the driver of the 2nd vehicle to the hospital, where they later died. The identity of the deceased person was not released. No other people or vehicles were involved in the accident.

According to the CBS 4 Denver News website this is not Sanchez’s first issue. His record shows traffic-related crash citations almost every year since 2007. The only exception was during a four year period after a 2010 arrest on Christmas Day for DUI and assault charges.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims of this horrible incident. If a family member would like the name of a person removed for any reason, please click the “Remove Post” link.
