Colorado Springs (February 6, 2019) – A fatal crash closed southbound 1-25 for several hours south of Colorado Springs on Sunday afternoon. Colorado Springs Police responded to the accident near the Martin Luther King Jr. exit. The crash left the driver of an SUV fatally injured.
Around 4:30 in the afternoon, witnesses saw the SUV suddenly veer to the left and cross all lanes of traffic. The driver then hit a Jeep and the center concrete barrier, where he was thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
Reports do not say whether or not the SUV driver was wearing his seat belt. The female passenger in the SUV was taken to a local hospital. She is in stable condition. The driver and passenger of the Jeep were not injured.
Southbound I-25 reopened at 8:30 pm. This makes the fifth traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2019.
