One Dead Following Suspected DUI Crash in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs (January 19, 2019) – Late Thursday night, Colorado Springs Police responded to a two-car accident at the intersection of Palmer Park Blvd. and Academy Blvd. The crash left one man dead and a second man in the hospital. Police suspect the driver of one of the vehicles was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The crash happened northeast of Colorado Springs near the Academy Shopping center. One vehicle was traveling west on Palmer Park and the other was southbound on Academy when the two vehicles collided at the intersection.

Police determined 31-year-old Vincent Leon Meisman caused the crash when he ran a red light. This caused a second vehicle to hit him broadside. EMS transported Meisman to the hospital. Suspected of driving under the influence, he was later arrested. Police determined Meisman caused the crash and charged him with careless driving and vehicular homicide. Meisman’s passenger, 36-year-old Joesph Tipton died at the scene.

The extent of damage or injuries to those in the second vehicle is unknown. Parts of Palmer Park and Academy late Thursday night into Friday morning due to the police investigation. The fatality becomes the 3rd traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year.
