Second Fatal Crash in Weld County in 12 Hours Kills 1Weld County (March 3, 2019) – Icy conditions may be to blame for a second crash in 12 hours on I-76 in Weld County. One man died and another is recovering in an area hospital. The crash took place on westbound I-76 near the line between Weld and Morgan counties.

Colorado State Patrol responded to a call at 9:24 am Sunday that a Dodge Ram 1500 had rolled, ejecting the driver. The man died at the scene and was later identified as a 33-year-old man from Texas. EMS took the 20-year-old passenger, also a man from Texas to Platte Valley Regional Medical Center in Brighton for treatment. The vehicle was driving westbound on I-76 just inside the Weld County line at mile marker 59.5, west of Wiggings.

Police did not say whether the men were wearing seatbelts or if drugs or alcohol were a factor. The area was also impacted by a winter storm warning at the time of the crash.
