Sheriff Deputy, Mother, and Year-Old Baby Killed in Southern Colorado Crash

Sheriff-Deputy-Mother-and-Year-Old-Baby-Killed-in-Southern-Colorado-CrashLAS ANIMAS COUNTY (December 12, 2018) – Three people were killed in a car crash that occurred Wednesday evening around 8 pm.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a sheriff’s office pickup truck and SUV were responding to a domestic violence call when they collided into a Chevy Sedan heading in the opposite direction.

The vehicles were traveling on Highway 12, about 15 miles west of Trinidad.

23-year-old Trinidad mother, Taelor Roybal died at the scene, while her 1-year-old son Ezekiel Valdez and Sgt. Matthew Moreno, 37, were transported to the hospital where they later died.

Two other deputies, Kenny Lopez, 22 and Trent Gomez 25 were also in the vehicles involved in the crash. They both sustained minor injuries and were taken to Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad.

Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
