FORT COLLINS (November 22, 2018) – Around 9:46 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, police were called to the intersection of Arctic Fox and Caribou Dr. in Fort Collins to investigate reports of a suspicious vehicle. When officers attempted to make contact with the driver, the car sped away.

Police did not chase the vehicle, and a short time later the driver crashed into at least one vehicle at the intersection of East Harmony Rd. and East Boardwalk Dr., killing two people. The dramatic crash involved multiple vehicles.

When police arrived on the scene, two cars and two trucks were on the side of the road and another truck had crashed into a nearby 7-Eleven store. The driver and suspect, 19-year-old Marcos Orozco, was driving a truck that was reported stolen from a farm in Ault.

He survived and was taken into custody. The Larimer County Coroner’s office later identified the two victims as John Nees, 55 and his daughter Nichole Nees, 38 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Nicole had most recently lived in Fort Collins.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims of this horrible incident. If a family member would like the name of a person removed for any reason, please click the “Remove Post” link.
